American Legion Eligibility

-
If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7th, 1941.
-
Received an honorable discharge, or Discharged under honorable conditions.
-
Still serving on Active Duty
American Legion Auxiliary Eligibility

-
If you are a grandmother, sister, spouse, or direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who served in either of the following periods and received an honorable discharge:
-
April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918

Anytime after December 7, 1941
-

Grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, or direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who served during the periods listed above who died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge.
Sons of the American Legion Eligibility

-
You must be the male descendant of a member or veteran who served honorably in the United States Military.
-
A current member of the American Legion.
-
A Veteran who served during WWI or a period from December 7, 1941 to present.
-
A veteran who died after their honorable discharge from service.
-
An adopted son or stepson of a member of the American Legion.

American Legion Riders Eligibility

-
Be a member in good standing with The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion.
-
Be a legally registered motorcycle owner or the legally registered owner's spouse.
-
Maintain the image of The American Legion by upholding its name and emblem.


Membership Applications & Instructions
How to Apply
1. Select the organization that applies to you:

The American Legion – For eligible U.S. military veterans
-
Sons of The American Legion (SAL) – For male descendants of eligible veterans
-
The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) – For eligible spouses and family members of veterans
2. Download the appropriate application form below.
3. Print the application and complete it by hand using a pen.

Please make sure all required information is filled out clearly and completely.
4. Bring your completed application to the Post in person.
5. Submit your application and pay your membership dues at the bar.

Simply provide your completed application to the bartender and submit your payment at that time.
Eligibility & Required Documentation
-
To complete your membership application, please be prepared to provide documentation verifying eligibility.
-
The American Legion: A copy of your DD-214 or other official discharge document showing honorable service during qualifying periods is required.
-
Sons of The American Legion (SAL): Documentation showing your relationship to an eligible veteran (such as a DD-214, discharge papers, or membership verification of the veteran) is required.
-
The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA): Proof of relationship to an eligible veteran (DD-214, discharge papers, or current/former membership documentation) is required.

All documentation will be handled respectfully and used solely to verify eligibility in accordance with national membership requirements.
